TAKE A LOOK AT THE ORGANIZATIONS WE SUPPORT

These organizations have largely affected not only the lives of the Dooney Family members, but the greater Portland community. They are fundamental pillars that supported the Dooney’s where they live, where their kids grew up, and where they still interact in a daily capacity. All funds raised above the cost of the 2021 Sean Dooney Memorial Fundraiser will be allocated among the four organizations we have selected and will go directly to the chosen projects at each organization. Find out more about the organizations, their connections to the Dooney family, and the amazing impact they each have in our community!

CYO/Camp Howard

The Dooney kids all played CYO sports throughout their grade school years, with several of the kids continuing into high school as well. Sean and Sheri were not only their kids biggest fans on and off the court, but often also found coaching basketball or as team parents for their kids teams, as well as scoring, running the time clock, serving in the concession stand or serving as gym monitor. The Dooney kids also enjoyed several summers up at Camp Howard, playing with their friends in the incredible Mt. Hood National Forest.

In 2012, Danny built a stage in Wy’East at Camp Howard with the help of family and friends for his Eagle Scout project. And in both 2013 and 2014, Sean and Sheri chaired the CYO Champions of Faith Benefit Dinner to fundraise for youth in the community to have greater access to sports and camps. The years have only brought the Dooney’s closer to the amazing people in the CYO/Camp Howard community.

St. Thomas More School & Parish

As the Dooney Family’s local parish and school, St. Thomas More has been an integral piece of the growth and relationships for Sean, Sheri and their kids since moving to the neighborhood in 1991. In 1936, Sean’s great uncle, Father Francis Schaefers founded the “church on the hill” and in 1948 he helped to open the school , where Sean’s mother Margaret was the first graduate of the school.

All seven of Sean and Sheri’s kids attended St. Thomas More School, from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Their oldest Brian, graduated in 2004 and their youngest Molly, in 2017 rounding out their 22 years as parents at the school. The family is still often found serving in the Parish and spending time with other members of the community.

Central Catholic High School

Sean’s great uncle, Father Francis Schaefers did not stop his work with St. Thomas More. Across town at Central Catholic High School he helped facilitate the school’s construction and served asits first principal, priest and director when it opened in 1939.

Sean graduated from the then all-boys school in 1979, a year after his older brother, Dan. He is joined as an alumnus of Central Catholic by five of his seven children; Meagan and Sean Jr. (2010), Daniel (2013), Erin (2015), and Ronan (2018), with the youngest of kids, Molly (2021) still in attendance.

Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon

In 1933, Leonard Adams, Sean’s maternal grandfather, opened an insurance agency in Beaverton. One of the first clients of the company was the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon. Sean grew up with his grandfather and father working at Leonard Adams Insurance. He began working alongside his father, Brian D.E. Dooney at the company in 1988. Sean shared countless memories and quality time with the Sisters from his early days with the company, until his passing. The Sisters remain one of the oldest clients of the family business and have enjoyed many adventures beyond the workplace with the Dooney Family.
